Lazarillo de Tormes

From the "Tractado primero" of the famous sixteenth-century anonymous novel, the "longaniza" episode with the blind man and Lazarillo. An introduction to this passage glossed in its vocabulary in a non distracting way, featuring cultural context and a review of the characteristics of the Spanish picaresque novel, as well as a self-check quiz and vocabulary crossword.

Garcilaso de la Vega: Soneto XXIII

This site reviews the classic sonnet "En tanto que de rosa y azucena..." paying attention to the literary context of the time, the poem's prosody and structure, and the author's biography. Post-reading self-check exercises on all these aspects help to reinforce the content of the site.

Luis de Góngora: "Mientras por competir..."

This site reviews the classic sonnet "Mientras por competir...", a poem directly linked to Garcilaso de la Vega's Sonnet XXIII. The site reviews some of the main characteristics of the Spanish Baroque, an introductory analysis of its thematic coherence as well as an explanation of the syntax. The site ends with two interactive exercises: a quiz and a listening comprehension dealing with poetry.
